Warnham LNR - Hairstreaks & Hawkers

Brown Hairstreak - D. Pinguey
Regular visitor Damian Pinguey emailed me yesterday about his exciting sighting at Warnham LNR yesterday afternoon. Damian is often found looking for dragonflies or butterflies around the Reserve and today he struck it lucky with this beautiful Brown Hairstreak. Not only was he lucky enough to find it but then also get the excellent image above.

We often find the eggs during searches in the winter on Blackthorn but the adults are seldom seen. If you would like to try and see this rare butterfly it was seen on the path between the dipping ponds and the Walnut Tree Plantation gate.

Migrant Hawker - D. Pinguey
As if that wasn't enough Damian also managed to bag this stunning flight shot of a Migrant Hawker in the same area of the Reserve. Well done for the stunning photos and excellent sightings. If you have any nice photos or sightings on any of the Horsham District Council Countryside sites then please do send them to us at jacob.everitt@horsham.gov.uk
