Common Terns - Tough Little Cookies!

Herring Gull
The two pairs of Common Terns at Warnham LNR become very protective once the females are sitting on eggs and even more protective once the eggs have hatched which is great for the baby terns. However when Warnham Tip has closed at 5pm the bigger gulls start to come over for a wash before returning to the coast. This is when all hell breaks loose and the Terns go crazy often giving Herring and Lesser Black-backed Gulls a clout for straying too close.

Yesterday was no different except one of the Terns managed to jab this Herring Gull so hard with its ariel bombardment than it punctured its skull and as a result we had to go and pick up this poorly looking chap. We hope he make's it through the night then the RSPCA will come and collect him and take him to Mallydams. I will keep you updated on him...The message from this story is DON'T mess with the Terns!
