Hoverfly - Volucella pellucens |
Finally a day of sunshine at Warnham which brought about a flurry of activity on the insect front. In a 30 minute walk from the centre I saw 10 species of butterfly, 4 species of dragon/damselfly and 6 species of hoverfly! As well as Roe Deer and Common Toad.
There are plenty of Large Skipper and Comma around at the moment and it is well worth looking out for the bee-mimic hoverfly Volucella pellucens which is currently common around Bramble flowers. Silver-washed Fritillary are also out but in small numbers at the moment as well as Ringlet, Gatekeeper, Essex and Small Skipper and a bit of an influx of Red Admiral.
