Belted Galloway Cattle |
An exciting day at the reserve as we let 13 Belted Galloway heifers on to the Wet Meadow at the northern end of the reserve. The ladies will be present until they have got the level of vegetation down to how we would like. We also hope by putting this type of cattle onto the meadow they may well poach up some of the wetter areas creating a different type of muddy habitat.

White Galloway |
Normally Belted Galloway's have the traditional black front end and black hind quarters with a central white band. However we have in our herd a White Galloway which only have black around the nose, ears and tip to the tail. They are often referred to as 'Belties' and their small size and hardiness allows them to be grazed in areas not suitable for other breeds.
We have the cattle on loan from
Surrey Wildlife Trust and we hope to be able to use these throughout the year. They will also be used hopefully to graze the heathland at Owlbeech Woods as well as the more boggy areas of Chesworth Farm.
