Warnham LNR

Warnham LNR Sunset
A fantastic day on the Reserve started with a guided walk for Sussex Ornithological Society which was a real success. Great views of a number of birds and in total we saw 38 species which included Siskin, Lesser Redpoll and great views of 2 stunning Red Kites. It was lovely to show such a keen group around the Reserve and give them an insight into the future plans for the Reserve and show them some of the magic birds on offer.

The moth trap was slightly better again last night with a slight increase in the temperature which saw 5 species recorded. The weather is due to get cold again over the next few nights but we will persevere with the constant effort and see how we get on.

Common Quaker - Orthosia cerasi

Small Brindled Beauty - Apochiema hispidaria
On the practical front we have ongoing scrape maintenance in front of the Tern Hide which has seen some of the reedbed turned back into scrapes after a number of years. We hope to be finished by the end of the week so fingers crossed we are ready for the spring migrant waders. We also have some works to finish on the feeding station so please bear with us when we have wardens and contractors on site.
