Wild Daffodils - Warnham LNR |
The Easter weekend proved to be full of surprises for us on the Reserve. Firstly we actually had some sunshine which was probably the biggest scarcity seen, but it did make for a fantastic Good Friday Easter Trail which saw hundreds of kids come and learn a bit about wildlife before enjoying a chocolate treat as reward! The weekend then went full circle with Storm Katie arriving on Sunday evening and did she arrive with a bang or what!

The Reserve went from looking really spring-like to total devastation with flooding, tree's uprooted and fences all over the place...add to that no power for 24hrs which meant the incubator for our bantam eggs failed and a seriously ill cow and you have a recipe for a horrid Easter Monday. On a brighter note we managed to sort out most of the fencing and the dangerous trees by the Tuesday morning and most of the flood water had also receeded by then too. We also had an incredible occurance that despite the incubator being without power 24 hours and us having to transport the unhatched eggs down to Southwater in the car that three of the eggs hatched. Sadly one passed away soon after hatching but we now have two little Chocolate Orpington Bantam chicks in the Visitors Centre which are incredibly cute and noisy!
