Warnham LNR

Cormorants
Quite a few birds around the mill pond this morning with 4 Cormorant, 124 Greylag Goose, 3 Grey Heron, 2 Mute Swan, 4 Teal, 1 Little Grebe, 27 Coot, 1 Great-crested Grebe, 25+ Mallard, 9 Tufted Duck, 7 Moorhen, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Common Buzzard and a nice male Sparrowhawk. Also a few Chiffchaff and Blackcap knocking around the bushes.

Hebridean Sheep - Mill Meadow
Once again a few of the Hebridean Sheep have returned from Owlbeech Woods and are grazing the Mill Meadow. This is the best form of management for this kind of wildflower meadow as it keeps all of the seed produced on site rather than it being removed by mowing. Grazing with sheep also allows a mixed sward length to develop which suits the small mammal population at Warnham perfectly.
