Lovely weekend if you're a duck!!!

Shoveler
As with many Bank Holiday weekends it seems the August Bank Holiday was one to forget! On Saturday it rained...a lot! Filling up all of our water butts and the wader scrape in front of the Tern Hide too. Sunday much the same in the morning though the rain was far less and it felt good for migrant birds turning up or as it happened flying over.

For those of you who follow me on Twitter you will have already heard this but for those that don't myself and WA were sat in the Tern Hide waiting for something to happen as WA got onto some VERY distant birds. Eventually they got closer and closer and we managed to count there were 10 birds in total. Seven were large and three of them seemed slightly smaller...as they got closer we deduced and eventually confirmed they were actually 7 Bar-tailed Godwit and 3 Greenshank! A fantastic record on both counts for the reserve and myself and WA were well chuffed with the mornings work.

Teal
Over the past few days as the Wader Scrape has been filling it has once again come up trumps for photography as these photo's show. Teal and Shoveler are normally very shy and retiring birds when they visit Warnham but the exposed mud has proved too tempting and they have been showing incredibly well from the hide as the pictures show.

All in all I hope that Bank Holiday Monday brings some brighter weather as it would be fantastic to show off the Teal and Shoveler in better light to the visitors. Meanwhile the moth trap is out tonight so hopefully we will catch a few nice bits over night. Make sure you check back to see what we catch!
