Southwater Country Park - 17th & 18th August

Near Miss!
Another weekend at Southwater and the first thing to say is that at last the butterflies were in a photographable mood for once! That included a few Clouded Yellows although they weren’t in a mood to open their wings but you can’t really complain about something as pretty as this:

Equally obliging were the Common Blues

And even this Slow Worm which I found on the footpath around the Quarry who looked at me with what can only be described as reptilian malevolence:

A few visitors to Southwater Country Park may have noticed some different birds on Cripplegate Lake. We have had a few Egyptian Geese come through and these introduced birds have varied in numbers from 2 to 8! (The bird in the middle is a young Moorhen).

My aim to record a Kingfisher fishing continued and hopes were high when at one point I saw 3 Kingfishers! When I got my Bushnell Camera back and looked through the footage things were looking good when a bird was recorded only an hour after I had put the camera out. Now, I set my the camera up to record for a minute every five minutes and if one of these Kingfishers had dived 2 second later then I would have more than just the splash to look at!
For the record, here is ‘The Splash’:

The camera is out again this weekend so let’s just see what happens!
